Come To The Table – IF: Gathering

IMG_0160

I’ve been preparing tables for a gathering, and having a blast doing it.

I was asked to decorate for an upcoming gathering called the IF: Gathering.  Have you heard of it?

IMG_0158

From the IF:Gathering website:

We exist to gather, equip and unleash the next generation of women to live out their purpose. This 2-day gathering will bring women together from around the world to wrestle with belief that God is real, the places in our lives where we are struggling with unbelief, how can we overcome unbelief and then what God can do with our belief.” – IF:Gathering

If God is real… then what?

IF:Gathering from If Gathering on Vimeo.

I can hardly wait!

The gathering is February 6-7, and during a 2-day simulcast over the weekend, thousands of locations will stream the women’s conference, and my hometown, Lincoln, NE will be one of them.  We will join thousands of other IF:Locals from across the U.S. and internationally, where we will come together and empower and encourage each other to live with purpose.

Won’t you come and gather with us around tables to eat, drink coffee, listen to some of the most amazing speakers, & just show up for something that was an awesome event last year, and promises to be even more-so this year?

Luke_Verse_white_gold-01-01_1_1024x1024IF: Gathering 2015 Theme Verse

This years theme is Faith. Seems like a simple word, but give that word to God, ask Him to help us have it, and He WILL do amazing things.

Not the church type? It’s ok. Come gather.   Don’t know anyone going? You will find wonderful women friends, gathered around tables with a spot open for you. Can’t afford the typical conference ticket price of over $150? It’s ok, our If: Gathering is only $20 if you sign up online, so come gather around.  Don’t know yet? Have littles at home and can’t give up an entire weekend?  Then just come gather on Friday, or just Saturday.  Come as you are, when you can.  Come one. Come all. Come and gather at the table.

These tables where we will sit and break bread are taking shape and being made beautiful for YOU! Please come.

My Slow & Steady Approach To Essential Oils

organic essential oils

I am slowly but surely getting super addicted to essential oils.  I know I’m a bit late to the game, but I was skeptical and just didn’t want one more thing to have to spend money on.

But then I started talking to women.

Women who were raving about replacing items in their medicine cabinet with oils, who were adding it to their homemade cleaners to KILL mold & mildew, & who were diffusing it into their homes to create an atmosphere and actually CHANGE the mood of their homes, and who were rubbing them on husbands sore ankles for instant pain relief!

These were women, friends & even family members that I trust…so I started listening!

Slow & Steady Approach to Essential Oils

My approach to essential oils is slow & steady.  The buying a lot of high-quality oils at once is inexpensive, so I have decided to go slow and do it in an affordable way.

I’m excited to slowly but surely share with you my journey.

So far, I have bought and used Tea Tree Oil Lemon Oil,Lavender Oil.

I use Tea Tree Oil in my Epsom salt mix to take detox baths.

I also have also used lemon essential oil in my homemade glass cleaner which gives it a lovely cheerful scent and influences my mood while I clean.

Aroma Soft Essential Oil Diffuser -- best diffuser!

My Favorite Essential Oil Diffuser

My favorite and most recent purchase for essential oils was an AromaSoft Ultra Sonic Essential Oil Diffuser.  This diffuser is budget friendly and after trying several different brands and types, this is the one I love.It is awesome!

An oil diffuser is a wonderful way to get the therapeutic scent of oil into a larger space. This one fills up my whole living room and dining room.

You fill the diffuser with water, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil or blend a few scents together (so fun…I love Peppermint and Lemon together!) and enjoy the scent in your home.

It is so great to know the scent is healthy and good for my family to breathe…unlike many scented candles out there that are full of chemicals and allergens!

So far my favorite oils are citrus essential oils —Lemon, Grapefruit & Lime— as they are great for uplifting the mood and good for any season.

With 4 females in the house and 3 of them being teens and preteens, a good mood lifter is always appreciated!

I am now researching an oil to diffuse for dry membranes.  I am on a new medication that causes my sinuses to become so dry!

The dry winter air of the Midwest sure does not help.

I am looking into some Peppermint Oil and Oregano Oil to put onto cotton balls into a mason jar and inhale to soothe.  This will be a fun mixture to attack my poor sinuses.  I will let you know how that goes.

What Brand Of Essential Oils Do I Use?

As far as what brand I decided to go with…well…that was a big and long and drawn out decision.

I did a bunch of reading and got more and more discouraged with the competitiveness of the different oil companies.

Many comments I have read about different companies from one company representative to another were just plain not nice!

I believe there are numerous good companies out there selling oils, large and small, but I personally prefer to go with a company that is smaller & does not rely on pyramid- type sales.

This is a very personal decision, and it truly is an individual decision.  If you use a larger company, please know that is fine too & that I am just happy that everyone is pursuing health in alternative and healthful ways.

Despite the numerous great companies out there, there ARE companies out there with very cheaply made, diluted and impure oils, and I did not want to be throwing my money away!

It was important to me to choose a brand I can be confident in and believe in.

lemon and frankenscense organic essential oils

Rocky Mountain Oils Essential Oils It is!

Rocky Mountian Oils is the company I decided to go with. Their offer oils that are all organic & pesticide-free, wild-crafted (if available), a wonderful company with great smelling oils for really reasonable prices.

They source their essential oils from reputable distillers that they know personally and trust.

They also allow me to link their products here, and if you make a purchase after clicking through to their site to mine, I will earn a commission, but your price remains the same.

If you are an essential oils lover or just intrigued by them and want to support New Nostalgia in this way, please know I am so very appreciative of your support and the funds will go back into New Nostalgia to make it an even better place for us all.

GO.

Send thoughts upward than inward.  Zero in.

Simply scribe them.Easier said than done, it takes such honesty.

Even if not meant for anyone else, what if someone stumbles upon them?

It is quite a courageous venture, this one I’m about to go on.

To write the mind alive.

I wonder if these 5 minute Fridays have given me a glimpse of what it might be like. Five minutes goes by like a blink and one has no choice but to just write their immediate thoughts.

Writing the mind alive…what’s the word? Proprioceptive Writing? Yes.

It is a whole new world of real.  I have always thought I wrote real, but here before me is another level.

I am eager to send my exact thoughts to paper. Eager to explore and see where it might lead.

It will be different to pen them onto paper, instead of typing and pushing send.

Would you like to come on this adventure with me? Yes? Grab an unlined journal, a candle, a bit of Baroque & a copy of this.

So Long Last Year, Welcome This Year – Five Minute Friday

Five minutes to write on the word: Welcome.

Write–don’t edit–just 5 minutes to be in the moment–

————————

Go:

These words, these songs of JJ Heller’s, they speak my heart, they lift my head.

Goodbye 2014

I say goodbye to last year, 2014.  Good riddance.

It was a year of struggle, of mental tug of war, of hormones switched on and off by monstrous needles jabbing each month, of watching those I love suffer and some of them lose everything.

Still much to be thankful for, I grasped at those thankful moments all the while sinking in despair. At the end of the year I willed myself to list my thankful, sometimes it felt like that list was the only pathway to reality & truth.

2014. You were a hard year.

Welcome 2015

With you comes a fresh start, for His promises never change and He makes all things new.

There is still suffering and sweet friends waiting in anguish on test results and others with stage 4 diagnosis & those damn monthly needles in my stomach whose thought of them makes it churn.

But. As sweet JJ Heller and her handsome husband sing,

I am not focusing on the ‘cracks in the walls or the times that I fall.’

I WILL NOT.

Because:

*It’s all becoming so clear
There is no use living in regret
Let’s fight a good fight
Train our eyes to find the light
That makes this year the best one yet!
Starting right here

I will not live in the dark room.  Not when my saving Savior is wooing me to the light room.

Todd & Amy

The Man That I Love

And for the man that I love:

*This year
I plan on thinking less of “I” and “me”
I resolve to think of “us” and “we”
This year
I can’t wait to see what good will come
To feel alive instead of feeling numb
This year

How?  How can I say these things with such certainty and without looking back? How will I run to the safety of the light room?

By welcoming truth.

The truth is, I have someone who will (in the words of another beautiful song by Heller)

*Love me for me
Not for what I have done or what I will become

I open my eyes from looking at all the despair,

I will lift my head & run to the light room and a God that says:

*I will give you the love
The love that you never knew

I come out of the room, fully known, fully loved, whole & true; with a love so familiar, but at times I never knew.

So, to 2015 I say “Hello & Welcome.”

Stop.

*All words in italics are words from “This Year” & “What Love Really Means” both songs by JJ Heller.
Her music has been a place I run to in the hardest of times.  I just adore her and her amazing smile, cute bangs & realness on her Facebook page.  What a gift she is & what gifts she has!

How To Fill Up With Nutrition To Leave Less Room For Junk

2014-12-08 07.44.47
“This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and Aloha, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #myAloha and #AlohaMoment http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV

Do you feel it?  Do you feel the New Year coming?

Our Christmas celebrations just started this evening, and let me tell you…my family can COOK!  We celebrated with my Mom’s side of the family & we partied pot-luck style.  I am sitting here feeling full and happy—and ready for the New Year.

I’m ready for the fresh start that the New Year brings–especially in the area of health.

You all know I live a pretty healthy lifestyle, but every year without fail, by the end of the year and all the holiday celebrations, I have let my MOST healthy habits slip a bit.  I still am eating pretty clean and healthy, but I feel off-balance.  I am not paying as much attention as I typically would to getting the nutrients I need and making sure my diet is balanced.  There are days when I have too many carbs, other days I wonder if I had enough protein, & getting those superfood and greens in happen some days, but some days not.

Usually I would wait until the New Year to evaluate where I am at and be more mindful of my health, but not this year!  I’m starting NOW!  This does not mean I can’t enjoy the holidays and all the great food it brings, but it does mean that I want to be purposeful about getting all the good, nutritional stuff in my body FIRST so that the not-so-good-for-me stuff does not affect me as much. If I am full of nutrition, I have less room for the junk.

Here are some of the best ways I have found to fill up with nutrition:

1. Start with a smoothie.

I know, I know. You have heard it a million times…but there is a reason why smoothies are so popular.  They are so versatile and such an easy way to get fiber, protein, superfood, greens, veggies & fruits into the body.  They are also really appealing to eat in the morning or as a snack, which are 2 times of the day that it really counts to fill yourself full of nutrition.  I am excited to share with you a new favorite product calledthat I have been using in my smoothies…keep reading!

2. Make SURE you are getting enough protein.

We eat a lot of plants in our family, and even did quite a long stint with going vegetarian as a family.  We have recently added a bit of animal protein back into our diet, as I found it pretty hard to get my kids to eat enough plant protein, but it is only a couple of times a week and I am very picky about where the meat comes from.   I have made friends with our local farmers to get that good, grass-fed, organic meat.  BUT plant protein is still my first choice, so we still eat lots of beans, quinoa, greens and use plant protein powder in our smoothies.

That new favorite product I mentioned above?  It is called and I am super excited about it. I was instantly drown to this product when I read that one of the main ingredients is plant protein from pumpkin seeds!  I am familiar with whey protein, soy protein & pea protein–but this was the first time I have heard of pumpkin seed protein in a protein shake product.  It made me excited because I know how stinkin’ healthy pumpkin seeds are for you, and I have been trying to find ways to incorporate their goodness into our diet.

I will tell you more about below.

3. Make carbs count.

If you are going to eat carbs, make sure they count by being whole grains & full of fiber.  The fiber will slow down the digestions of the carbs, which in turn keeps the blood sugar stable.  Carbs are needed for fuel and energy, but they should not make up the bulk of your meals.  If the majority of your plate is white or yellow with pasta, bread, mac n cheese, white rice; then some changes need to happen.  This is what was happening in my family when we ate vegetarian.  I found that we were unbalanced and eating too many carbs.  Some carbs are good and needed, but make them count by making sure they contain fiber.

4. Drink your fill of water before indulging in other drinks.

Lets face it. The holidays are full of calories, so a great way to cut empty calories is by being mindful of your liquids.  Holidays bring egg nog, amaretto coffee, hot cider, hot cocoa, and all kinds of fun, festive drinks.  Go ahead and indulge, but drink a nice big glass of water before you do.  The water will fill you up and you will be satisfied with sipping more slowly on all those empty calorie drinks, and you will go for refills a bit less often.

5. Eat breakfast

It’s a given.  If you eat a good balance breakfast, you will not be as hungry and over indulge the rest of the day.  You will find that your concentration will be so much better if you start out the day with good nutrition.

6. Eat plants. Vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds.

Plant food is full of phytonutrients & antioxidants–all those amazing things that snuff out inflammation in our bodies and protect us from disease.  Plant food is filling, so if you are getting your share of plants, you will be full and less likely to overindulge.  That fried onion topped green bean casserole? It does not count! Watch for those recipes that add junk on top of your veggies & avoid them or take a smaller serving. If there is a raw vegetable platter and dip at those holiday parties, have some dip–but dip dainty–don’t scoop!

A quick nut tip: Did you know that if you have a palm-full of almonds 20 minutes before a meal, that it will curb your appetite and you will in turn eat much less?  It is a great trick.  I often grab a handful while I am making dinner.

7. Take a Multi-Vitamin.

I know little pills can in no way do what plant food can do, but I do believe they are a great ‘fall-back’ or a ‘just -in- case’ you didn’t get all of the vitamins and minerals you might need through food during the day.  I am learning more and more just how important certain minerals are for digestion & brain health & energy & clear skin & shiny hair &…well…the list goes on and on!  Just one deficiency in one type of vitamin or mineral can really throw one’s health off.

Aloha Protein Powder

A protein smoothie is a great way to accomplish a lot of the tips above, all in one swoop.

I have tried many, many types of protein powders and have even reviewed some here on the blog, and let me just say, they keep getting better and better! has for sure given protein powder a powerful improvement, and after using it for the last couple of weeks, I personally won’t have to look any further for a protein powder. It is by far my favorite. It tastes amazing.

It is a plant-based protein and uses superfood components.  It is made with organically grown and wild-harvested ingredients and is tested far beyond government regulations. It made responsibly both socially and ecologically.

The nutrients in the powder are made with whole foods, and has a complete amino acid profile, with no added chemical amino acids, vitamins or minerals.  Each serving provides 18 grams of plant-based protein!  It has no sugars & no fillers which is super important to me, especially the filler part.  I cannot stand buying a protein powder and later learning that most of my money went towards fillers!

The plant protein comes from Sacha Inchi Seeds, Pumpkin Seeds & Peas.  I like that!

2014-12-08 07.43.19

Let me just list the ingredients for the Vanilla Protein Powder and see if you are as impressed as I am:

Ingredients:

Sacha Inchi Seed Protein, Pumpkin Seed Protein, Pea Protein, Coconut Water, Coconut Cream, Coconut Sugar, Apple Juice, Wild-Harvested Vanilla, Madagascar Cinnamon, Sunflower Lecithin, Xanthan Gum, Hawaiian Pink Salt, Monk Fruit Extract

That ingredient list makes me very happy.  Short, sweet, recognizable & quality ingredients.

The Chocolate Protein Powder ingredients are just as impressive, and uses fair-trade cacao.  The chocolate is my favorite. When I tasted the powder for the first time, what hit me what that it did not have an after-taste or a weird texture.  I am hooked.

My favorite flavor is the chocolate.  My favorite way to use it is by blending it with almond milk & adding a spoonful of peanut butter.  OH. MY. YUM.

2014-12-08 07.40.54

The Aloha website has a ton of recipe ideas if you want to get more creative with the powder.

Would you like to try it out for yourself?  Do what I did and .  The trial is 14 days with the benefits of becoming auto-enrolled into the monthly subscription –while supplies last.  You will pay a small bit for shipping, but I am telling you…it is well worth it!

Save A Life With A Quarter

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Vitamin Angels for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

There is just something about watching a young child play.

The constant motion.  They can’t help themselves.  Have you noticed?  A child rarely just stands still.  They are either swinging their arms around or dancing from side to side, walking on their tip toes or running when they should be walking.

I have a niece whose default mode of transportation is twirling.  She just twirls and twirls until she gets to her destination! It is a beautiful, uninhibited sight to behold. She is carefree, full of life, &full of joy–just as young kids should be.

Kids are in awe of the world around them and want to experience it to the fullest.  They notice things we adults are to distracted and busy to see.  They walk around with their chins raised up, curiosity getting the best of them, exploring eyes & hands that are just itching to touch everything–especially the things they are told not to!

Children walk around with a spark in their eye & a face as bright as the sun.

But not all children.

There are children around the world whose spark is literally gone from their eyes.  Replaced by dullness. Lethargy. A weakened immune system that causes bugs to get into digestive systems which cause infections that take away precious lives. Lives that can be saved by something so small that it would cost one only a quarter. Yes, Even the smallest gift can change a child’s life

What can a quarter buy?

VITAMIN A.

And Vitamin A Saves Lives.  I know this because I know about Vitamin Angels.

Vitamin Angels helps at-risk populations in need–specifically pregnant women, new mothers, and children under five–gain access to lifesaving and life changing vitamins and minerals.

That quarter we use to flip? It can reduce mortality in at-risk children by up to 24% by providing one dose of vitamin A, twice a year.  Vitamin A supplements are the least expensive solution to addressing preventable child deaths.

Even the smallest gift can change a child’s life

I don’t know about you, but my head can barely wrap around that!  That simple coin that we flip to determine which of my kids has to do the dishes that night — that very coin can save a life! What? Who knew? Awesome!

Get involved. Donate now.

Want to help?  Yes, so do I.  So here is an idea.

How about this Christmas, in lieu of giving a gift, you donate to Vitamin Angels in honor of whoever is on your list that you know would get it.  Someone who will understand how this would be a gift that lasts beyond the holidays and someone who would even want to continue the legacy of giving.

When you make a donation you will receive a downloadable or sharable card that shows the donation to Vitamin Angels.  That. Is. Cool.

Just last night I unpacked our Christmas decorations and found 3 mini stockings with each of my girls initials on them.  I now know what I will do with these adorable stockings.  I will make a donation for each of my 3 girls, and put the card in the stocking for them to open on Christmas morning.  After all, this season is all about giving.  It will be the perfect way to get minds onto what really matters on Christmas morning; remembering how precious life is. So precious that the MOST precious life was given, which is the very reason why we celebrate Christmas in our family.

If you want to do the same, Vitamin Angels is having and end of the year giving campaign–which runs now through midnight December 31, 2014.

5 Reasons To Take A Detox Bath

DETOX BATH FAUCET

Why A Detox Bath?

1. To remove toxins.

Everyone is toxic to some degree.  Toxins are in the air, in our water & in our genetically modified foods. They are in the products we put on our bodies & even in the clothes we wear.  There is no avoiding toxins in the world we live in. Even before you leave the house in the morning, you have been exposed to numerous toxins.  The chemicals in your shampoo and soaps, your moisturizer, your makeup, your toothpaste…even the water that comes out of your shower head.  If you ate fruit & yogurt for breakfast –though healthy–the fruit contains pesticides and the yogurt (unless organic) can have toxins in it.

Dr. Oz just did a show showing that toxins from plastics are in almost everyone of us in the form of phthalates.  Our foods that come wrapped in plastic or in plastic containers, especially if they are high fat, absorb phthalates and then get into our system.  The plastic bags we use in our kid’s lunches have phthalates in them.  It seems it is almost inescapable…and  phthalates are just one toxin that affects our bodies in negative ways.

Another toxin that most people are exposed to is PCB’s in the lining of food cans.  Did you know that there are also PCB’s  on receipts?  It is used to prevent the color on paper from running or bleeding. I don’t know about you, but I am not in the habit of washing my hands after touching receipts–who knew we needed to?  There are numerous chemicals in cleaners that we use, paint we use in our homes, fertilizers we use on our yards — the list goes on and on.  Toxins are unavoidable in the modern world.

One can educate themselves and take steps to avoid many toxins, but in reading the above you can see that it is impossible to avoid them  all together.

The liver is responsible for dealing with toxins once they get into our bodies.  It converts them which makes it possible to eliminate them via our digestive system. That which is not eliminated in this way is eliminated through our skin in the form of sweat.

I can’t tell you the number of times I read in health books that deal with cancer that if you have cancer, your liver is not functioning correctly.  Believe me, we want our livers to stay healthy and functioning, but often instead, they are taxed by an overload of toxins.

2. To give the body a nice dose of magnesium

Magnesium is an essential mineral for staying healthy is often overlooked and under utilized.  Although you can get magnesium through food – almonds, wheat germ, fish, green leafy vegetables – it is not easy to meet your daily needs through food alone.

Detox baths are made with epsom salts which is magnesium sulfate.  Magnesium sulfate helps draw out toxins, and has numerous benefits all on it own.

Magnesium is an essential mineral required for more that 300 biochemical reactions in the body including transmission of nerve impulses, regulation of body temperature, forming healthy bones & teeth, & energy production.  It helps absorb calcium  and keeps osteoporosis at bay.  It brings relief from symptoms of menopause and PMS & minimizes the risk of premature labor — which I experienced first hand when it was given to me intravenously when I went into premature labor with my oldest.

Magnesium helps with insomnia, migraines, kidney stones, gall stones, & in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.  It regulates blood pressure and helps in the treatment of diabetes.

Magnesium is also plays a very important role in mental health. It helps with panic attacks, stress, anxiety, and agitation. It reduces the severity of symptoms and helps reduce the rate of reoccurrence.  This reason alone moves magnesium to the top of my priority list!

Signs that one is deficient in magnesium include fatigue, headaches, insomnia, muscle pain, muscle cramps/spasms & problems with mental health.

Magnesium is absorbed through the skin, and my 2 favorite ways of getting it is through Ancient Minerals Magnesium Oil spray and epsom salt baths!

3. It is a great way to spend some time taking care of yourself

I live in the midwest.  We have been experiencing the most amazing fall weather, but this week the temperature is supposed to drop and get quite cold.  One reason I am looking forward to the cold weather of winter is so that I can get back to my detox baths.  Due to some medication that I am on to prevent cancer recurrence, I have regular hot flashes.  They were pretty severe during the summer, and the last thing I wanted to do was get into a hot bath.  Now that the weather is cooler, I am excited to get back into the habit of detox baths.

There is something about locking yourself in a bathroom — especially if you are a Mom– and getting into a hot bath for a few minutes of quiet.  Detox baths require at least 20 minutes, and I cannot tell you how rewarding just a few minutes of stillness and quiet is!  I usually use my bluetooth Moxie, and either listen to a podcast or some calming music.

4. It is incredibly relaxing & make for a great night’s sleep

I recommend taking your detox bath in the evening before bed.  They are incredibly relaxing and can make you feel quite sleepy, sometimes even weak.  The first time I took a detox bath it was shortly after finishing chemo and radiation, and I was full of toxins.  I got quite light-headed and nauseous after my bath & felt like I had the flu.  It passed once I drank water and rested for about 30 minutes and my body temperature came down.  I’ve read this is a normal response from someone who is quite toxic.  Every time I took a detox bath this reaction became less and less, until now I just feel very relaxed and good after a detox bath.  I tell you this so you are not surprised if you feel icky after your first detox bath.  It won’t last, and you will know that you are very much benefitting from the detox.

5. It helps soothe muscle and joint aches and pains.

The same cancer medication I talked about earlier has a side affect of joint pain.  I cannot tell you how relieving detox baths are to my aching joints.  It is drastic.  I step into the bath in pain and step out of the bath pain free.  It surprises me every time!  It has an anti-inflammatory effect that works very quickly!

Who Should Detoxify?

Really, anyone and everyone–unless pregnant or have high blood pressure or heart disease.  If you are in bad health, make sure you ask your doctor before taking a detox bath.

LOOFAH

How To Take A Detox Bath:

1. Fill tub with quite hot water.  Expect to sweat!

2. Grab a glass of filtered water to have close by.  Stay hydrated during and after the bath.  Light a few candles for ambience while the bath is filling up.

3. Add 2 cups of epsom salts to a standard bathtub full of water.

4. Add 1 cup of baking soda, which neutralizes chemicals like chlorine in the bath water.  It also helps the body absorb minerals and leaves the skin quite soft.

5. Add 5-10 drops of essential oils. This step is optional, but it sure makes the bath smell great!  I love lavender. I have also used tea tree oil and eucalyptus oil for extra detoxification and to wake up the senses and clear sinuses.

6. Switch all ingredients together in tub and soak for at least 20 minutes, working your way up to the ideal 40 minutes.

7. Expect to sweat!  You should start sweating within the first few minutes.  Remember to drink that water!

8. Get out of the tub slowly.  You might be light-headed so take it easy.

Detox Bath Recipe

1 bathtub full of hot water

2 cups epsom salts

1 cup baking soda

Optional Ingredients:

5-10 drops essential oils (optional) (lavender, tea tree, lemon or eucalyptus all works well)

1 Tablespoon ground ginger

Add all ingredients to the tub. Swish & soak for at least 20 minutes up to 40 minutes. Don’t forget to hydrate by drinking water!

Make It In Bulk

I love to mix up a big batch & store it in this large glass container.  I mix the salt & baking soda together-the above recipe x 5, and it sits on my bathroom floor looking all cute with a this 6 oz. silver scoop.  I then scoop about 3 scoops into the bath and then add my essential oils.  It is a great reminder to take my detox baths, & would make a great homemade Christmas gift.

Tips:

~If you want to extend the detox, wrap in a towel or fluffy robe and keep on sweating!

~Don’t let your hair touch the water–it would be too drying.

~This detox bath is great for colds and flu.  Eucalyptus is especially great for opening nasal passages.  Also good for colds and illness — add 1 tablespoon of ground ginger to the tub. Ginger increases heat levels and makes you sweat even more profusely.

~Don’t use harsh soaps or lotions after a detox bath.  The pores are wide open so treat them kindly.

~Before this bath, use a loofah or dry brush your skin to stimulate the lymphatic system. This will aid in the release of toxins.  Use long, sweeping motions toward the heart. I talk more about dry brushing here.

~Use coconut oil as a non-toxic after bath moisturizer.
