Anti-Procrastination Weekly Update

You all have been so kind in response to the post I wrote about my health scare. The comments, the emails, the Facebook posts–so many of you saying that you are praying for me. I feel overwhelmed by all the love! Of course, I would love your prayers, but want to reassure you that I’m doing well and do not feel worried. I will update in August after my next Oncology appointment.

We have a heat wave coming to the midwest this week, and we plan on spending some time at my in-laws’ pool and pool house. I was there this morning with a dear friend and her two littles, and tomorrow my Colsie is having a few friends there in the evening. We sure are spoiled having such a wonderful place to live slow and make wonderful summer memories!

I’ve been using the Couch to 5K Running App in the mornings and I’m on week 4. Jogging in this heat is going to be brutal. I’m going to try and wake up even earlier than I have been to beat the heat. If all else fails, I do have a gym membership, but I sure have loved being in nature on my jogs! I still can’t believe my walks have turned into jogs. I’m so thankful my joints are holding up –I have joint issues from cancer med side effects, but thanks to Turmeric, inflammation is staying under control. I know the cardio is great for my heart and I’m hoping the few pounds of post menopausal weights I’ve gained (also thanks to cancer meds) will continue to melt away. I will write more about this app and my experience with it. I’m quite giddy about it!

ANTI-PROCRASTINATION

Anti-Procrastination Weekly Update

Anti-Procrastination Weekly Update

It is mid-July and I cannot get enough of summer!

We had a bit of a health scare earlier in the summer, but since moving past that, it has truly been such a precious summer. Maybe that is why. Life- threatening health scares can be the best perspective changer, and I feel so overwhelmed and thankful when I think of how I get to experience continued health.

I am loving the daily rhythm of the summer. I have been starting each day quite early in order to get some outdoor exercise in before it gets too hot out. It has been so good for my body and soul to experience nature on a daily basis! I’ve been posting bits of my mornings in nature on InstaStory. I love capturing the beauty!

My summer mornings are quite structured with coffee, God-time, breakfast, outdoor exercise and blog work; but once afternoon hits I make myself completely available for my girls. Time with them has been so wonderful.

Our evenings are very chill. I’m making my way through a novel with late night reading. I also love watching recorded television with my Todd and our youngest. My other 2 girls often have friends over and I have especially loved getting to know my Teagan’s guy, who is over often and is top notch!

Last night we spent time at my inlaws pool grilling out and spending time together as a family. I love when summer weeknights feel like a weekend night! Oh, how I love summer!

You will notice there are no “new obsessions” below this week. I think that is due to this mindset I’ve found myself having this summer – minimal, minimal minimal. Right now my new obsession is to get rid of the unnecessary. I have 5 bags of stuff, packed into my trunk to be unloaded at our local thrift store.

It has been a bit crazy adjusting to a new summer schedule, but I keep self- talking, reminding myself to slow the mind in the midst of busy summer schedule. It really works, this self-talk. Often it comes with a deep breath which automatically slows and my eyes open to all the amazing blessings that surround me. I then find my thankful.

I’m getting into a summer rhythm of working on this blog from 6:30-noon, then I turn my attention to my teens and their needs for the day. Today their need is to be with friends and go to Grandpa & Grandma’s po0l, and boy does that sound good to me! My car will soon be filled with giggling teen girls, pool towels and ice cream. Hello summer!

Anti-Procrastination Weekly Update

I’m feeling it. The end of the school year is here and summer here we come!  My 3 girls’ last day of school is tomorrow! Today and tomorrow are just half days due to finals for 2 of my girls who are in high school. My youngest does not think that is too fair and is trudging through her last days. I’m so proud of all of them!

Next year they will all 3 be in high school. Oh boy! Send the prayers! They will all be riding together in the same car with my oldest driving, so pray that the bickering would be minimal and not a driving hazard! Ha!

Seriously though, I cannot believe how the years have passed so quickly. I cannot believe I get to experience these high school years with them. I remember when I was sick, wondering if I would be around to witness this. I am so thankful.

Braces, driver’s license, first jobs, first homecomings, proms, and boyfriends. Loads of homework and at times loads of drama. I love it all.

I will share more about my summer plans in the next weekly update. Bring it on, summer!

This past week flew by! I have been spending lots of time working on the back-end of New Nostalgia, learning to optimize it and make it more search engine friendly. I’m especially focusing in on fixing broken links that have accumulated over the years and speeding my page loading time up. I want this site to be super user-friendly for you all!

Prom 2017

I spent last Saturday helping my oldest get ready for prom. You can see more pictures of it on Instagram or Facebook, but here a couple of my favs. My cosmetology background came in handy as I did her hair and nails. I had much fun taking and editing photos of her and her cute date, but boy was I tired at the end of the day–prom prep is no joke! What precious moments with my girl!

My trip to California was so amazing. Thank you to those who followed along on Instagram and commented your delight for me in all that I experienced. I came back absolutely in awe of God’s creation and His love for me shown through beauty and the love of my sweet friends who I stayed with all week.

The day after I arrived back home, I had my every 3-month injection and my 6-month oncology checkup. My doctor checked for lumps and bumps and found none. I always breathe a sigh of relief after seeing my Oncologist and having her capable hands check me over. I’m eager to hear how my blood work looks. The injection set me back this week, as it always does. It is jolting, to rid the body of all hormones and set me into artificial menopause. I feel it both physically and mentally. It usually takes a good week to get back into the swing of life and start feeling myself. I think it was extra rough this time due to jet lag, coming down from the high of a wonderful vacation, and very little sun. I am starting to feel my easy joy, hope, faith and energy coming back so I’m eager to start this week!

Best way to drink lots of water

Bubba Envy Vacuum Insulated Tumbler

There is just something about drinking super cold water with a big ol’ straw! I’ve been drinking more water than ever lately thanks to my new Bubba Envy Vacuum Insulated Tumbler. It keeps ice for over hours, has a large, easy- to- remove lid, fits easily under my ice dispenser and ALL of the ice goes right into the tumbler instead of on my floor!  It has a silicone base pad to keep it from slipping and fits perfectly in my car drink holders. I take it everywhere!

Ongoing Obsessions

Kindle Fire

This ongoing obsession with my Kindle Fire is not letting up. I especially love using it in the evenings when tucked in bed. It’s like my own perfect sized, personal television. Before I indulge in watching Netflix or Amazon Prime shoes,  I make sure I read at least a chapter or two of whatever book is on my Kindle. I love using the same device to both read and watch. It is going to come in very handy on my flight to Cali!

Essential Oil Diffuser

Still using it daily and love it! The Aromatherapy Essential Oil Diffuser by AromaSoft is amazing for getting the scent out into larger rooms. It is priced very reasonably and works so well! After buying 4 other diffusers, I did some research, read a ton of reviews, and bought this one. I’m so happy I did!

Spaghetti Sauce Sweetened With Carrots

Recipes I’m Making This Week

{Watch my Instagram Stories for a glimpse of the making of these recipes. I often capture my cooking process!}

We divide our grocery budget according to how many weeks are in the month. This week’s groceries fell on the last week of April so I need to be a bit frugal this week. Whatever amount I go over in the previous weeks of the month come out of the following weeks budget, so by the time we get to the last week of the month there is usually not as much left as the first week.

Because of this, our meals this week will be pretty basic, buy yummy!

Tacos

Spaghetti (with homemade sauce sweetened with carrots!)

Instant Pot Buttery Lemon Chicken

Chicken Fried Rice

Veggie Burgers

Instant Pot Weekly Staples

Crockpot Bone Broth (made it in Instant Pot this time)

Instant Pot Yogurt  | Instant Pot Steel Cut Oats | Instant Pot Quinoa Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs |
