Weekly Update

Did you see (on Instagram) that I got to visit my beautiful friend in California? We had the most amazing time together. I came back with a full heart and so refreshed by all the beauty I saw and experienced.

Getting back into my life routines has not been easy after traveling! I came home to a flooded basement and it just seemed to just take me a really long time to find my rhythm again. I don’t do well without rhythm, so I am loving a new week and a Monday to get all my ducks back in a row!

This weekly Anti-Procrastination post really helps me get back on track and look over my goals and plan my meals for the week. I hope it inspires you, too!

Weekly Update

It is October! One of my favorite months.

You all know me, I am all about the cozy and any excuse to hunker down and nest. October is the perfect month for this.

October came and brought on dreary days, both in clouds and life in general. There is so much hard going on in the world. Last week was a very sad and slow week, and I (like so many of you) felt like I was in mourning after the Las Vagas shooting. It was a sadness that has been hard for me to shake.

This morning I woke up to the news of wildfires in Cali and more lives lost. I have been dealing with the sadness and loss by slowing down and doing a bit of self care with journaling, reading, praying and thinking, even if it is just a few minutes a day.

When I take the time to do this, I find true hope and am able to be a better friend, wife, mom and woman. I then can love and serve well.

Do whatever it takes to love and serve well. We need each other right now, and part of being there for each other is taking care of ourselves.

If slowing is what you need, start now—close your eyes and take 5 deep breathes. Even with those little running around, you can do this. Even with those deadlines looming, take a breath. Even with those thoughts that are crushing–especially when you slow– do it anyway. Just breathe.

The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Psalm 34:18

I have been purposefully building areas of ‘nests’ in my home for my people. I love zeroing in on this in the fall. I do this with ambient lighting, candles, warm lower wattage lightbulbs in lamps, baskets of blankets sitting around, cozy pillows, soft music and mugs of warmth for my hands and delivered to my loved ones.

Next month is my birthday and I’ve been checking out Target and all the cozy finds! I love having a bit of birthday money to spend on all the cozy things! I gathered my favorites from Target above. They are all affiliate links so if you use them you will be supporting the blog.

Pumpkin Spice and Peppermint Mocha Blend! Yes, please.

The reviews say that the blends have the warm scent of the holidays, and are so much better than the typical synthetic scents of many holiday scented items. I love that these can be used all through the holiday season.

Weekly Update

We are feeling very settled into a fall/school routine here in the Bowman household. I now have 2 teenage drivers, and I must say I REALLY like it!

I find myself with more time on my hands and much less time in my car!

I’m feeling quite proud of my girls. They all 3 seem to be thriving this year. They have been working so hard at their studies. Our home is full of textbooks and school chrome books, and most late afternoon/evening you can find my girls studying their little hearts out at the dining room table or nested on the couch.

Gallery Wall

I watched my sisters ‘littles’ this past weekend and it sure took me back to when my girls were little. It is crazy that instead of toys being strung about our home, it is now textbooks, makeup, and car keys! I’m holding on to the moments and finding this teenage season so much fun.

Chef Vantage BEST Salt & Pepper Shakers

WHO KNEW salt and pepper shakers could make me so happy? I’ve been needing and wanting new s & p shakers for awhile now.

I surprised myself with how picky I felt about what I wanted. I wanted easy to clean, easy to fill, minimal & sleek design, and as functional as possible.

I found all of these things with Chef Vantage Salt & Pepper Shakers. I LOVE that they close all the way, and have adjustable pour with 2 hole sizes, you can clearly see which is salt and which is pepper thanks to the glass bottom.he design is super sleek and blends with any decor. The design is super sleek and blends with any decor. They are easy to fill and wash and can close all the way–which I think is important–to keep the dust out and for sanitary purposes. I knew with a 5-star rating on Amazon that I would love these shakers! I sure do!

Pumpkin Spice Essential Oil Blend

Pumpkin Spice and Peppermint Mocha Blend

I’ve read reviews on these new oil blends and they are excellent. I cannot wait for mine to come in the mail! They are 20% off right now, so it is the perfect time to order. I think these would be so great for fall and all the way into the holidays!
The reviews say that the blends smell much more and have the warm scent of the holidays, and are so much better than the typical synthetic smells of many holiday scented items.

Weekly Update

If you read my post titled ‘Facing the Clutter In That One Dreaded Room,’ you know, thanks to my daughter, I’ve been a busy bee decluttering! I often get bit by the decluttering bug in the Fall. I feel like I’m preparing to nest with cooler weather on the way. I cannot nestle in and relax when I have clutter looking at me every time I try to walk into my bedroom!

I’ve also been busy creating some really exciting things, but I just can’t tell you about them yet! I’m hoping I can reveal my secret by the holiday season…maybe end of October? Until then, my lips are sealed, but I’m just giddy. That’s all I’m going to say about that.

Also, raise your hand if you have been putting off appointments that benefit your health. My hand is raised! I am due for teeth cleaning, (done!), I need to reschedule an Oncology appointment, oh…and that lovely yearly exam we ladies just love!

How about you? Are you due? Don’t forget to add a mammogram if you are due and take a minute this week to do a self-check.

Weekly Update

My OH my. I just finished watching the eclipse and it was truly magnificent. We live in Lincoln, NE, where we were engulfed in the shadow of a total solar eclipse for just over one minute. It was crazy to experience night in the middle of the day, and when I took a few seconds to peel my eyes away from the sun to the glow around the horizon, it was a bit ethereal. I was giddy, euphoric, and truly in awe of it all!

It made me think of Creator God, his beautiful creation (of most we only just get glimpses of but are still amazed), and what Heaven will be like someday. This God whose handiwork makes us all stop and stare upward wearing silly shades as we take in slivers of light with mouths hanging open–this God knows me (and you!) by name. Fully known, fully loved. So much beauty!

It was wonderful to take a day to look at the sky with some of my loved ones. I had a mountain of work to do, (I’m working on something special for you all!) so I worked late Sunday night in order to slow down on a Monday. I will pick up on that work this evening, too. Sometimes #slowliving is a tradeoff, busy nights for a slow day, and boy, was this one worth it!

My house is so quiet! It is the first day of school for my girls and I’m not sure what to think! I have mixed emotions. I shed a few tears this morning looking at the back-to-school picture of my girls and knowing this is the first day of my Teagan’s senior year. I remember her first day of Kindergarten! I feel so proud and thankful to see this day, to see them all grow. Thankful for my life and theirs.

Back to school - Anti-Procrastination

Despite my brief tears, I am giddy to have time to write and think. A slow-living mindset was a challenge the last couple of weeks, juggling all the things– New Nostalgia, home, and my girls’ needs. It was so “people-y” around here! I love my people, but I also need some quiet in my days to think and produce content for the blog and my social channels.

I do so much better with routine and rhythm.  I felt myself getting very moody, grumpity, and desperate for these things the last few days of summer break! Back-to-school came right on time.

My girlfriend was laughing at me when I was sharing all of this with her. She said, “I feel like it was just yesterday that you were saying you couldn’t wait for spontaneous summer days.” She is right. Most of the summer I loved not knowing what each day would bring ,until I didn’t. Ha! I do not do spontaneous for many days in a row very well. Oh, how I love predictable routine!

Weekly Update

We just got back from a week long trip to Minnesota with extended family, and boy did we have a wonderful time. It was the perfect balance of fun activity and slow moments. I loved it.

Dock

Favorite active moments: Family game playing, banana boats, paddle boards, ziplining over treetops, girls in kayaks, family bike ride, shopping at the Mall of America — so much fun.

Slow Living Chair

Favorite slow moments: Sunsets, sitting lake side, family dinners, early morning God time in “my” chair with my favorite lap quilt, a rain storm that slowed us on our last day, a whirlpool tub, audio books in the car — these moments did my heart such good.

Now we are home and I’ve finally conquered the mountain of laundry and emails, but have a ton of blog work to do with 2 campaigns coming up. It is our last week before the girls start school, and it is a busy one! I’m hoping to find some slow moments at the pool in between all of the busy.

When is back-to-school for you?
