Graduation Open House Party + Anti-Procrastination Weekly Update

{follow me on Instagram}

Last AP Weekly update I was talking about prom. Now I’m sharing about our graduation open house party!

This life of teenagers is a full one, and we are experiencing so many milestones all at once. It is crazy busy, but I’m finding pockets of time to slow, inhale and recognize how precious all of these moments are.

white globes hanging from a tree for photobooth backdrop

We celebrated our Teagan’s upcoming graduation and along with her 2 cousins who are also seniors this year. I had such a great time planning this party! It was a joint effort with my amazing sisters-in-law’s! We made a great team.

My wonderful Mother-in-Law opened up their home and hosted the party for us, which was no small gesture as we planned for 200-300 people to come.

There was much planning to do, from figuring out parking (my 2 nephews on scooters did the job beautifully and made me smile while watching them) to seating, tables, tablecloths, flowers, grad tables desserts, food & decor.

It was so much fun but I must be honest and say I’m relieved it is over and needed a slow Mother’s Day to recover, which thankfully I got!

My favorite part of the day was watching our Teagan welcome her guests so graciously and with poise. I could go on and on about the emotions I felt throughout the day, and may just write another post about how felt that day and also how we planned the party.  Let me know in the comments if you are interested in this!

Weekly Update

It was prom week in the Bowman household! Did you seem my beauties on Instagram? It was so fun being a part of getting them ready. I am always the hair stylist and the photographer. Did you know I went to Cosmetology school and worked in a salon before having kids?  I always thought about doing my own girls hair for prom back in my hair stylist days, and now it has happened several times over.

Speaking of busy…

…Ya’ll. I’m up to my ears in Graduation plans. My Teagan is graduating and I still can’t believe it! Her open house is 2 weeks away and my to-do list has things on it like:

  • Order wallet size senior pictures + 1 – 5×7 and 2 – 8×10
  • Price lemonade
  • Rent 40 white wooden folding chairs
  • Reserve tablecloths
  • Text Grandparents and fill them in on grad plans
  • Update Qdoba catering order
  • BE PRESENT IN THE MOMENTS

It has been a constant battle to keep living slow and in the moment. Long to-do lists and planning can make it hard to stay in the present and in a good mood! That is one reason I started the #nnthankful challenge.

It forces me to stay present, see all the beauty in the busy, have a slow mindset and notice all there is to be thankful for. It also gives the best mood boost, which I’m noticing already, just after a week of looking for my thankful. There are so many things!

Join me? Use the #nnthankful anytime you post something you are thankful for on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. I will see your posts and it will let me know I’m in good company with finding my thankful in the busy seasons of life!

Favorite Things

Physicians Formula Organic 100% Natural Origin CC Cream

I have yet to change all my makeup to organic, but have been using this Physicians Formula Organic CC Cream foundation for a couple of years and like it. I decided it is a good start as it covers most of my face, and the rest of my makeup sits on top of it. This gives a dewy finish which I like as my skin is maturing.

Burt Bees Natural Tinted Lip Moisturizer

I have been having more days where I keep a full face of makeup off, and just put essential oils on my face for a healthy natural glow.

This Burt Bees Natural Tinted Lip Moisturizer is great lip balm and has just a hint of color. On bare face days, if I’m feeling a bit pale and tired I will even use a touch of this lip moisturizer on my cheeks as a quick cream blush.

5 drops Peppermint

5 drops Orange

Carrier oil of choice.

Put drops in a 10 ml roller bottle. Fill the rest of the bottle with a carrier oil of choice – jojoba oil, almond oil, fractionated coconut oil, grapeseed oil etc). I used jojoba oil. Add top of the bottle and shake to mix. Roll away (on temples, neck, wrists or behind ears) when focus is needed. Need a diffuser? This is my fav essential oils diffuser!

Anti-Procrastination Weekly Update & Goals

Weekly Update

I’ve been hit by the spring cleaning bug! The problem is, I need to organize and declutter before I can do deep cleaning. Well, today is the day. The sun is shining and I am finally motivated to hit an area of our home that just keeps collecting clutter.

We have a landing area in our upstairs.  I have to walk through it to get to my bedroom, and it is a disaster. I have not been able to clear it completely since we cleaned out our office room and gave it to our oldest daughter, Teagan.

She needed some extra space, and as the office was connected to her room, it made sense to give up our home office. She now has both rooms and I now have a whole bunch of clutter from our old office that I must get rid of or find a new home for.

Ya’ll. I cannot wait to have this DONE. I would do a before and after picture, but seriously, I am too prideful! It is that bad.

I sent a photo to my sister over Snapchat and she laughed at me. {Insert laughy face emoji here}

Ugh, why oh why do I procrastinate? I’m going to obey my own free printable below and Be Encouraged, Be Inspired, and GET SOMETHING DONE!

Vitamix Professional Series Brushed Silver

We use the amazing Vitamix kitchen appliance several times a day. Our whole family uses it and I really can’t imagine not having a high-speed blender! We use it for smoothies and making homemade almond butter, pureeing soups and making homemade salad dressings.

Whole Earth Stevia + Monk Fruit Sweetener

I first tried this Whole Earth Sweetener when I ordered an iced green tea at Starbucks. I was pleasantly surprised that they offered a healthy sugar substitute. I have struggled with stevia because it tastes bitter to me, so when I saw that this brand added monk fruit to it, I was hopeful.

Let me tell you, I love this! No bitterness. It is so sweet that I only use half a package. I bought some on Amazon and I know these little packets will last me a long time! So easy to throw in my purse!

Burt Bees Natural Tinted Lip Moisturizer

I have been having more days where I keep a full face of makeup off, and just put essential oils on my face for a healthy natural glow.

Spiraled cucumbers, carrots and green pepper. Spiralized vegetables

{follow me on Instagram}

Weekly Update

We have really embraced the goal of eating high nutrient food in our household lately, and it has been quite fun!

My Todd and I are reading Dr. Fuhrman’s Super Immunity book–meaning we both are reading on our own Kindles, viewing each other’s highlighted text and discussing as we go.

High nutrient foods include lots of veggies in lots of different bright colors, and my trusty spiralizer has been dusted off and used like crazy this week! Why have I not been using this thing on a regular basis?

Just look at those beautiful ribbons or cucumber in the above photo! It is so easy to use and can prep veggies to eat in just seconds.

I will have some posts coming up to show you how we have been sprializing, using and eating a rainbow of veg! In the meantime, follow along on Instagram, and check out my ‘food prep’ highlights. You will see examples of me sprializing away, and see how pretty it all looks stored in jars in my refrigerator.

ANTI-PROCRASTINATION

Anti-Procrastination Weekly Goals

Weekly goal setting and anti-procrastination tips

Weekly Update

It is spring break! I’m excited to spend some extra time with my 3 girls this week. My freshman Avery made JV soccer team at school and has at practice every morning at 7:30, so no sleeping in or break from rides to school for her or me!

{there she goes!}

This week my work focus is writing content, so it really works out great! I can sit in a coffee shop (which I am doing right now) and have 1 1/2 hours of focused work time while she is at practice. It is much less time than I normally spend but at least it is something!

I’ve been batching my processes and creating systems to get my work done most efficiently as this site grows. It has been working so well.

My Work Focus Goals By Week:

Week 1 — social media

Week 2 –my home/homemaking

Week 3 –content creation/writing

Week 4 — backend of the site/admin work/pitch writing

Week 5 — photo taking /photo editing

I still do bits of everything every week, but it sure is profitable and free-ing to zero in on one main thing each week. It helps my brain know what to focus on.

Instead of wearing all the hats all the time, it gives me permission to put on one hat at a time and even tells me which hat it should be each week. I love it. No wonder hats are coming back into style.

Did you notice my home is a part of my “work?’  I often work from home, so it directly affects my work! Plus it is and always will be my priority as it is the place where the people I love gather.  I want them to have a soft place to land after being out in this often hard world.

I have to admit, my favorite focused week so far has been when I gave myself permission to focus in on my home!

Did you read my recent post about Everyday Home Goal Systems? I use these systems weekly whether it is the week I am to focus in on my home or not. They keep my home running smoothly when I use them faithfully.

What about you? Could this mindset work for you and the work you need to accomplish? Have you ever tried batching or using systems to accomplish your goals?

Favorite Things That Help Me Reach My Goals

Turmeric Supreme Supplement

I started taking turmeric regularly for joint pain that is caused by a cancer medication that I take. If I miss even one day my joints are inflamed by the next morning.

I know the minute my foot hits the ground (because I can feel every joint aching joint in my foot) that I forgot to take my turmeric. Needless to say, I rarely forget!

I really don’t know what I would do without the discovery of the amazing anti-inflammatory benefits of turmeric! There are so many other benefits of this powerful root. I will write a post about it soon.

Calm Magnesium Supplement

Another supplement I take every day is called Calm. It is a powdered magnesium that you stir into water. It tastes refreshing and I truly feel the calming benefits of it.

I notice that I am a bit more uptight on days I don’t take it, and it really helps keep my anxiety in check.

Magnesium is also great for digestion issues and keeps everything working as it should in that area. That is all I will say about that. 🙂

Anti-Procrastination Weekly Update and Goals

Weekly Update

I love how the light streams into my kitchen during the day. I captured my favorite area of kitchen light in the photo above. Do you see how the light penetrates the shadows, bounces off still objects and creates beauty?

It reminds me of life. Sometimes all we can do is be still and pray for the light to come.

God has been so very close this past week and showing me even in the shadows, his light comes in and makes things new and beautiful, just like the image. Without light, the image would be dark and gloomy.

Sometimes it takes periods of shadows and darkness and gloom for true light to come in and change it into something so beautiful it takes our breath away. Sometimes we are so desperate for change that when it comes it is hard to grasp it and all you can do is exhale.

There recently has been breakthrough in areas of my world that I have faithfully prayed for.  Because my story interweaves with the stories of others, I am not free to share, but I want to shout loud that GOD HEARS OUR PRAYERS.

His timing in answering them can seem like forever, but He has shown me over and over how good and trustworthy he is, working behind the scenes of life, making all things fit together for good.

Hold on in the darkness. Look for light in the shadows. Have faith that a good God sees you and has a plan and purpose. Choose trust and joy as you wait for it all to unfold–be still! Know in the end, light wins, and true beauty will come.

Wallet Case for iPhone

I have had this wallet case since last October and LOVE IT. It is pretty in the rose gold, (also comes in silver), stores my driver’s license and a credit card, is super protective, wears beautifully, and has a handy little magnetic lock stand. It is my favorite iPhone case by far!

Computer Carrier Sleeve

While we are on the subject of cases, I have to share with you my new computer case. I have had it a week and I am super impressed with the quality. The inside is the softest, cushioned material–almost velvety–and has thick cushioned protective edge.  It is nice to look at with the sturdy leather handle, and compact enough that I can slip it in my large purse when I don’t want to carry it. The front pocket stores my cord with smaller compartments for pens, earbuds and my usb connector. I bought the black one with the brown leather handle.

Icicle Ice Storm

Weekly Update

I am giddy. The sun is shining and the high is supposed to be almost 60 today! Oh, how I need that sun and spring-like weather! This past week was a very icy one here in the midwest. I cannot wait to strap on my running shoes this afternoon and go for a jog.

This past week I wrote a post about creating systems to pursue health and wellness so that healthy decisions become second nature to me. I talked about how I integrate health and technology into my daily rhythms. Did you catch that post?

I have received lots of good feedback…it seems like everyone is wanting to pursue health and wellness. I think springtime is a great time to push reset and revisit some of those New Years goals. I am excited to figure out how to make walking or jogging outside a part of my new spring rhythm.

This past week I saw fruit from being super purposeful with my ‘yes’s’ and ‘no’s.’ I felt so much more grounded and present with the people I spent time with, and even much more present in my writing here at New Nostalgia.

It is amazing what a little margin can do. I was a much better Mom, Wife, Sister & Friend. I got so much more done this past week because I had some breathing room.

How about you? Are there areas in your life where you need to create margin?

L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Washable Mascara

I kept seeing beauty bloggers write about how this mascara is a great dupe for a much more expensive brand for creating voluminous eyelashes. I tried it and am amazed at how much thicker my lashes look. It is my new fav.
