Icicle Ice Storm

Weekly Update

I am giddy. The sun is shining and the high is supposed to be almost 60 today! Oh, how I need that sun and spring-like weather! This past week was a very icy one here in the midwest. I cannot wait to strap on my running shoes this afternoon and go for a jog.

This past week I wrote a post about creating systems to pursue health and wellness so that healthy decisions become second nature to me. I talked about how I integrate health and technology into my daily rhythms. Did you catch that post?

I have received lots of good feedback…it seems like everyone is wanting to pursue health and wellness. I think springtime is a great time to push reset and revisit some of those New Years goals. I am excited to figure out how to make walking or jogging outside a part of my new spring rhythm.

This past week I saw fruit from being super purposeful with my ‘yes’s’ and ‘no’s.’ I felt so much more grounded and present with the people I spent time with, and even much more present in my writing here at New Nostalgia.

It is amazing what a little margin can do. I was a much better Mom, Wife, Sister & Friend. I got so much more done this past week because I had some breathing room.

How about you? Are there areas in your life where you need to create margin?

A Few of My Favorite Things

Gaia Turmeric Supplement

Turmeric is an amazing natural anti-inflammatory and has SO many health benefits. I take it every day and have for years. It takes away my joint pain that is caused by a cancer medication that I take. This brand has pepper in it, which helps your body absorb the supplement.

L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Washable Mascara

I kept seeing beauty bloggers write about how this mascara is a great dupe for a much more expensive brand for creating voluminous eyelashes. I tried it and am amazed at how much thicker my lashes look. It is my new fav.

Weekly Update

I cannot believe it is the middle of February! I chuckle at the ‘weekly’ word…it has been a month since my last ‘weekly’ update.

This month swooped in and I already found myself needing to revisit my New Year’s goals and embrace slow once again.

February came in with a bang and along with it a busted pipe. The main sewage pipe in our home. Frozen and cracked, it wreaked a bit of havoc on our home. Carpet is torn up, walls cut down, but the pipe is fixed! A great reminder of what a gift running water is, and what is and is not an emergency in this life. This was not. We have the option to fix it. We have running water once again. I am thankful.

I recently decorated for our yearly IF: Gathering and it was much fun, but lots of thought and work. It was a wonderful weekend–you can see glimpses of it on my Instagram. Have you heard of IF or participated in your city?

My Todd had a birthday February 5th but we have yet to celebrate it. We had family plans but needed to cancel them. Evidence of a hard, hard-working season for him, and that we are all trying to figure out the best way to live this life and all it can throw at us.

Valentines Day came with it a reminder: all that matters is love. It forced me into contemplating love and this family of mine.

I had to just take a breath, buckle down and figure out once again how to slow down and love well. Time is passing and I have been too busy doing lots of loving and lovely things but missing out a bit on my Love’s at home.

My Teagan is a senior, ain’t nobody got time for missing out on time! I reevaluate where I’m spending it and how. I make choices where and when I have the power to. Deliberateness matters.

The above letterboard that is in our home reminds me what must be most important to me during this season. My home, my people in my home, and the allowing of God’s glory to infiltrate our lives.

Figuring out what this looks like right now has taken long Voxers to my sister and my dearest friends as I try to decide what are my best ‘yesses’ and my best ‘no’s, and how to make the best of fast, hard seasons.

It is so hard to slow and say no to great things to say yes to the greatest of things. This matters, even if it means postponing my own dreams to help those I love to chase theirs.

I so don’t have it figured out but it is good to sometimes just put the breaks on and make tough decisions with time, so that it doesn’t pass me by.

ANTI-PROCRASTINATION

Anti-Procrastination Weekly Update

Anti-Procrastination Weekly Update

Weekly Update

It is October! One of my favorite months.

You all know me, I am all about the cozy and any excuse to hunker down and nest. October is the perfect month for this.

October came and brought on dreary days, both in clouds and life in general. There is so much hard going on in the world. Last week was a very sad and slow week, and I (like so many of you) felt like I was in mourning after the Las Vagas shooting. It was a sadness that has been hard for me to shake.

This morning I woke up to the news of wildfires in Cali and more lives lost. I have been dealing with the sadness and loss by slowing down and doing a bit of self care with journaling, reading, praying and thinking, even if it is just a few minutes a day.

When I take the time to do this, I find true hope and am able to be a better friend, wife, mom and woman. I then can love and serve well.

Do whatever it takes to love and serve well. We need each other right now, and part of being there for each other is taking care of ourselves.

If slowing is what you need, start now—close your eyes and take 5 deep breathes. Even with those little running around, you can do this. Even with those deadlines looming, take a breath. Even with those thoughts that are crushing–especially when you slow– do it anyway. Just breathe.

The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Psalm 34:18

I have been purposefully building areas of ‘nests’ in my home for my people. I love zeroing in on this in the fall. I do this with ambient lighting, candles, warm lower wattage lightbulbs in lamps, baskets of blankets sitting around, cozy pillows, soft music and mugs of warmth for my hands and delivered to my loved ones.

Next month is my birthday and I’ve been checking out Target and all the cozy finds! I love having a bit of birthday money to spend on all the cozy things! I gathered my favorites from Target above. They are all affiliate links so if you use them you will be supporting the blog.

Pumpkin Spice and Peppermint Mocha Blend! Yes, please.

The reviews say that the blends have the warm scent of the holidays, and are so much better than the typical synthetic scents of many holiday scented items. I love that these can be used all through the holiday season.

Weekly Update

We just got back from a week long trip to Minnesota with extended family, and boy did we have a wonderful time. It was the perfect balance of fun activity and slow moments. I loved it.

Dock

Favorite active moments: Family game playing, banana boats, paddle boards, ziplining over treetops, girls in kayaks, family bike ride, shopping at the Mall of America — so much fun.

Slow Living Chair

Favorite slow moments: Sunsets, sitting lake side, family dinners, early morning God time in “my” chair with my favorite lap quilt, a rain storm that slowed us on our last day, a whirlpool tub, audio books in the car — these moments did my heart such good.

Now we are home and I’ve finally conquered the mountain of laundry and emails, but have a ton of blog work to do with 2 campaigns coming up. It is our last week before the girls start school, and it is a busy one! I’m hoping to find some slow moments at the pool in between all of the busy.

When is back-to-school for you?
