Anti-Procrastination Update {9-18-18}

ANTI-PROCRASTINATION a mug and fall oil blends.

In this space of Anti-Procrastination Updates, I will periodically share with you all the things–things that are important to me, things I want to get to, and things that help make life purposeful and meaningful.

I will share items I love that I would share in a conversation with my sisters or a close friend, and give a brief update on life and speak whatever is on my heart and in my head at the moment.

THIS ONE LIFE I GET TO LIVE

It is getting close to fall season and I am giddy about it! I’ve been delighting in looking up during my daily walks as yellow, orange and red leaves fall from the sky like floating confetti.

Anti-Procrastination Update {8-7-18}

anti-procrastination

Do you feel it? Summer is flying by and here comes fall! I cannot believe it.

The summer has been satisfying for me and I feel proud of what I have learned and accomplished.

I learned how to be fluid with my work schedule, releasing it to what is MOST important (my girls and their needs) but at the same time working hard when I do get the moments to buckle down and work!

Did you notice this site got a little facelift? It should look familiar but a bit more modern and user-friendly.

It was a lot of behind-the-scenes work and I am so very thankful it is pretty much done! Thank you to Laurie Cosgrove of Laurie Cosgrove Design and Dan King of Fistbump Media.

My site might look nice and tidy, but the rest of my life has not been without a little inner chaos this summer. I am breathing much more easily after learning that a biopsy was benign yesterday.

Anti-Procrastination Weekly Update and Goals

Letterboard Quote Goals

Weekly Update

I cannot believe it is the middle of February! I chuckle at the ‘weekly’ word…it has been a month since my last ‘weekly’ update.

This month swooped in and I already found myself needing to revisit my New Year’s goals and embrace slow once again.

February came in with a bang and along with it a busted pipe. The main sewage pipe in our home. Frozen and cracked, it wreaked a bit of havoc on our home. Carpet is torn up, walls cut down, but the pipe is fixed! A great reminder of what a gift running water is, and what is and is not an emergency in this life. This was not. We have the option to fix it. We have running water once again. I am thankful.

I recently decorated for our yearly IF: Gathering and it was much fun, but lots of thought and work. It was a wonderful weekend–you can see glimpses of it on my Instagram. Have you heard of IF or participated in your city?

My Todd had a birthday February 5th but we have yet to celebrate it. We had family plans but needed to cancel them. Evidence of a hard, hard-working season for him, and that we are all trying to figure out the best way to live this life and all it can throw at us.

Valentines Day came with it a reminder: all that matters is love. It forced me into contemplating love and this family of mine.

I had to just take a breath, buckle down and figure out once again how to slow down and love well. Time is passing and I have been too busy doing lots of loving and lovely things but missing out a bit on my Love’s at home.

My Teagan is a senior, ain’t nobody got time for missing out on time! I reevaluate where I’m spending it and how. I make choices where and when I have the power to. Deliberateness matters.

The above letterboard that is in our home reminds me what must be most important to me during this season. My home, my people in my home, and the allowing of God’s glory to infiltrate our lives.

Figuring out what this looks like right now has taken long Voxers to my sister and my dearest friends as I try to decide what are my best ‘yesses’ and my best ‘no’s, and how to make the best of fast, hard seasons.

It is so hard to slow and say no to great things to say yes to the greatest of things. This matters, even if it means postponing my own dreams to help those I love to chase theirs.

I so don’t have it figured out but it is good to sometimes just put the breaks on and make tough decisions with time, so that it doesn’t pass me by.

By the time you read this, I will have been in California visiting my friend Karen, going on day 4. I am writing it a day before I leave, and I am giddy excited!

My Karen and I met thanks to this blog. She is a survivor friend who was reading my cancer story and got in touch with me. Our hearts knitting and over the past 6 years we have been the best of friends, visiting each other as often as possible.

I am looking forward to my trip. We will be staying at Carmel by the Sea then head on to Lake Tahoe. Follow along at New Nostalgia’s Instagram account.

Obviously I won’t be meeting some of my weekly goals while out of town, but I plan on getting lots of reading done and will for sure be moving my body on hikes in the mountains and walks by the ocean.

Lavender-Roll-On-Bottle

Eden’s Garden French Lavender Roller

I have written about my GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) and I’m so thankful medication keeps my anxiety low and bearable most days. If I ever have any breakthrough anxiety symptoms on more stressful days, I use Eden’s Garden French Lavender Roller. My anxiety manifests itself in my stomach…I will get a familiar knot or pit in my stomach and if it gets grows it can cause nausea. When I start to feel that, first I take a minute and talk to God about what is concerning me, then I make sure I have taken my meds on time. Then I will reach for my lavender roller and roll it on to my wrists or up on my collarbone. It is also great on the back of the neck if a tension headache starts to form. I have been amazed at how well this works to calm my spirit and nerves.

Ongoing Obsessions

Kindle Fire

This ongoing obsession with my Kindle Fire is not letting up. I especially love using it in the evenings when tucked in bed. It’s like my own perfect sized, personal television. Before I indulge in watching Netflix or Amazon Prime shoes,  I make sure I read at least a chapter or two of whatever book is on my Kindle. I love using the same device to both read and watch. It is going to come in very handy on my flight to Cali!

Essential Oil Diffuser

Still using it daily and love it! The Aromatherapy Essential Oil Diffuser by AromaSoft is amazing for getting the scent out into larger rooms. It is priced very reasonably and works so well! After buying 4 other diffusers, I did some research, read a ton of reviews, and bought this one. I’m so happy I did!

Recipes I’m Making This Week

{Watch my Instagram Stories for a glimpse of the making of these recipes. I often capture my cooking process!}

Since I will be gone this week, I am not making ANY recipes! Usually if I go out of town, I will prepare meals and freeze them, but now that I have teenagers, I gave myself a true break from cooking and they are on their own. I made sure I had lots of groceries on hand for them to choose from. I also bought food I don’t normally buy, (like frozen breaded chicken strips) and that delighted my girls. I do think they will miss my cooking after a week of processed food!

You will notice I have taken the Home Zones off of this Anti-Procrastination Weekly Update. I wonder if you all use them? I used to, but lately they have not been working well for me. It seems like I have been able to do daily general upkeep around here, but when it comes to zone work and deep cleaning, I am still not where I want to be.

I am ready for a new routine when it comes to keeping my home clean, and have been reading Simply Clean by Becky Rapinchuk. She is the founder of Clean Mama and knows what she is doing when it comes to cleaning! I am halfway through the book and I’m so inspired! I think it is time to get rid of zones and try a new system.

Clean Mama Simply Clean Book

I’m sure you will see the influence of this book in my upcoming posts. I have implemented her daily tasks so far {Make Beds, Clean Floors, Wipe Counters, Declutter, Do Laundry} and look forward to learning more!

Her book is so inspiring and full of checklists to keep you on track!

Fresh Basil Plant

I bought mine at Trader Joes. It sits on my kitchen window sill and makes me happy, bringing fresh greenery into my kitchen and the filling it with the scent of basil. I have been using it as a main ingredient in my favorite lunch, Tomatoes on Toast.

Isotoner Clog Slippers

I cannot wait to slip my feet in these whenever I get home.  Isotoner Clog Slippers are warm, light-weight, soft, cushy and machine washable. They have a rubber sole so I even wear them outside of the house to quick drop my girls off at school.

Kindle Fire

I am on the last and final season of Downton Abbey. I know, I know, I am a bit behind the times. I watch it on my Kindle Fire, in the evenings tucked in bed. It’s like my own perfect sized, personal television. Before I indulge, I make sure I read at least a chapter or two of whatever book is on my Kindle. I love using the same device to both read and watch.

Green Tea

I keep reading how important green tea is when it comes to health, specifically when trying to keep cancer away! Yogi Pure Green Tea is what I have been using and loving. I have a goal of 3 cups a day and have been making a pitcher of iced green tea to keep in my refrigerator at all times. I’ve made some Lemon Ginger Simple Syrup (using honey & maple syrup instead of sugar) which is delicious and adds the health benefits of lemon and ginger. I will write a recipe post soon!

La La Land Soundtrack

If you follow my Instagram Stories, you know I am crushing on the La La Land Soundtrack. I often use it as background music for my videos. There are happy songs and sad songs. I just love it!

Essential Oil Diffuser

Still using it daily and love it! The Aromatherapy Essential Oil Diffuser by AromaSoft is amazing for getting scent out into larger rooms. It is priced very reasonably and works so well! After buying 4 other diffusers, I did some research, read a ton of reviews, and bought this one. I’m so happy I did!

Weekly Update

I feel the slow turn to busy and I’m working hard to keep slowness of heart and mind as the calendar fills up! It is filling up with right and good things, but it is always an adjustment for me to go from low-key holiday mode to life and resolutions and goals!

I have loved thinking about those goals and choosing a One Word for the year. I will share my word with you soon! It has already really challenged and changed my outlook on this fresh new year.

I do have to say that a quiet house has been nice and it makes me motivated to work, write & spend the time of this brand new, fresh year in a wise way!

I do miss my girls, though, now that they are back in school. I can’t tell you how proud I am to be their Mom. My oldest 2 have been walking through some hard stuff that life has brought, and I am so amazed at their resilience and they are choosing to focus on what really matters and pursue that. I sure wish I could write more about the details of their lives because they are just so amazing! I do have to respect that they are teens and don’t want details of their world blasted across the internets. I will share tidbits though, because I just can’t help myself. Oh how I love my girls!

Weekly Update

My goodness! It has been a long while since I’ve updated the blog. I think this holiday break is the longest I have taken in 7 years of writing New Nostalgia!

It was time well spent with my sweet family and with my pen and journal, both of which refreshed my soul. I know the time spent will make this site stronger in the coming year.

It amazes me how profitable it can be to put pen to paper, especially after ingesting God’s Word and listening to what I feel like He is saying to me through it. Getting alone with Him and my thoughts and seeing them on paper in black and white has allowed me to sort out my heart. Some of this has been in the journal my sister got me for Christmas. I love it I can’t wait to share some of it with you this coming year!

I pray you all had a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year’s Day. I’m so thankful for your continued support in reading this blog. What an honor that anyone would read my words.

Thank you for supporting New Nostalgia!
