Anti-Procrastination Weekly Update

Anti-Procrastination Weekly Update

I’m feeling it. The end of the school year is here and summer here we come!  My 3 girls’ last day of school is tomorrow! Today and tomorrow are just half days due to finals for 2 of my girls who are in high school. My youngest does not think that is too fair and is trudging through her last days. I’m so proud of all of them!

Next year they will all 3 be in high school. Oh boy! Send the prayers! They will all be riding together in the same car with my oldest driving, so pray that the bickering would be minimal and not a driving hazard! Ha!

Seriously though, I cannot believe how the years have passed so quickly. I cannot believe I get to experience these high school years with them. I remember when I was sick, wondering if I would be around to witness this. I am so thankful.

Braces, driver’s license, first jobs, first homecomings, proms, and boyfriends. Loads of homework and at times loads of drama. I love it all.

I will share more about my summer plans in the next weekly update. Bring it on, summer!

This past week flew by! I have been spending lots of time working on the back-end of New Nostalgia, learning to optimize it and make it more search engine friendly. I’m especially focusing in on fixing broken links that have accumulated over the years and speeding my page loading time up. I want this site to be super user-friendly for you all!

Prom 2017

I spent last Saturday helping my oldest get ready for prom. You can see more pictures of it on Instagram or Facebook, but here a couple of my favs. My cosmetology background came in handy as I did her hair and nails. I had much fun taking and editing photos of her and her cute date, but boy was I tired at the end of the day–prom prep is no joke! What precious moments with my girl!

By the time you read this, I will have been in California visiting my friend Karen, going on day 4. I am writing it a day before I leave, and I am giddy excited!

My Karen and I met thanks to this blog. She is a survivor friend who was reading my cancer story and got in touch with me. Our hearts knitting and over the past 6 years we have been the best of friends, visiting each other as often as possible.

I am looking forward to my trip. We will be staying at Carmel by the Sea then head on to Lake Tahoe. Follow along at New Nostalgia’s Instagram account.

Obviously I won’t be meeting some of my weekly goals while out of town, but I plan on getting lots of reading done and will for sure be moving my body on hikes in the mountains and walks by the ocean.

Lavender-Roll-On-Bottle

Eden’s Garden French Lavender Roller

I have written about my GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) and I’m so thankful medication keeps my anxiety low and bearable most days. If I ever have any breakthrough anxiety symptoms on more stressful days, I use Eden’s Garden French Lavender Roller. My anxiety manifests itself in my stomach…I will get a familiar knot or pit in my stomach and if it gets grows it can cause nausea. When I start to feel that, first I take a minute and talk to God about what is concerning me, then I make sure I have taken my meds on time. Then I will reach for my lavender roller and roll it on to my wrists or up on my collarbone. It is also great on the back of the neck if a tension headache starts to form. I have been amazed at how well this works to calm my spirit and nerves.

Ongoing Obsessions

Kindle Fire

This ongoing obsession with my Kindle Fire is not letting up. I especially love using it in the evenings when tucked in bed. It’s like my own perfect sized, personal television. Before I indulge in watching Netflix or Amazon Prime shoes,  I make sure I read at least a chapter or two of whatever book is on my Kindle. I love using the same device to both read and watch. It is going to come in very handy on my flight to Cali!

Essential Oil Diffuser

Still using it daily and love it! The Aromatherapy Essential Oil Diffuser by AromaSoft is amazing for getting the scent out into larger rooms. It is priced very reasonably and works so well! After buying 4 other diffusers, I did some research, read a ton of reviews, and bought this one. I’m so happy I did!

Recipes I’m Making This Week

{Watch my Instagram Stories for a glimpse of the making of these recipes. I often capture my cooking process!}

Since I will be gone this week, I am not making ANY recipes! Usually if I go out of town, I will prepare meals and freeze them, but now that I have teenagers, I gave myself a true break from cooking and they are on their own. I made sure I had lots of groceries on hand for them to choose from. I also bought food I don’t normally buy, (like frozen breaded chicken strips) and that delighted my girls. I do think they will miss my cooking after a week of processed food!

It is officially springtime here in the midwest. I’m honestly freaking out (in a good way) because I am giddy over the beauty of tulips, daffodils & spring-flowering trees, but also freaking out (in a bad way) because I see weeds and dandelions in my yard already!

I have been so focused on learning new routines for keeping the inside of my home clean that I have ignored the outside and honestly just want to keep ignoring it!

Last week I made some homemade cleaners that I can’t wait to share with you. They are in glass spray bottles and stored in a caddy that is so cute I don’t want to put it away! I have kept it out on my counter and have been using the cleaners like crazy! They smell amazing thanks to these essential oils, and their cleaning power has blown me away. I will be sharing soon so make sure you are subscribed to have my posts come right your inbox so that you don’t miss a thing!

Trader Joes Jelly Beans, Walmart Polka Dot Mug, Fairy Lights

So many of my obsessions in one photo! The main obsession this week was Trader Joes Jelly Beans. I love that there are no artificial colors or flavors. They have added some fun color to my table platter and great delight in my girl’s easter baskets.

Here are the details on the rest of the platter: Fairy lights stuck in a jar are so very pretty, both day and especially at night. The gold polka dot mug is from Walmart. The flowers and dried flat-leafed eucalyptus are both from Trader Joes. Last but not least, the gold straw himmelis are homemade by me! They are made out of wire, plastic straws, and gold spray paint. For DIY Himmeli instructions, see this post.

Burts Bees Tinted Lip Balm – Rose

This Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Rose is the perfect spring/summer shade. It adds just a bit of rose color tint but goes on so easy as a moisturizing lip balm. I love that I don’t need a mirror to apply this, just swipe on and go! It smells good, adds moisture and just the right amount of tint. Love!

Anti-Procrastination Weekly Update

You will notice I have taken the Home Zones off of this Anti-Procrastination Weekly Update. I wonder if you all use them? I used to, but lately they have not been working well for me. It seems like I have been able to do daily general upkeep around here, but when it comes to zone work and deep cleaning, I am still not where I want to be.

I am ready for a new routine when it comes to keeping my home clean, and have been reading Simply Clean by Becky Rapinchuk. She is the founder of Clean Mama and knows what she is doing when it comes to cleaning! I am halfway through the book and I’m so inspired! I think it is time to get rid of zones and try a new system.

I’m sure you will see the influence of this book in my upcoming posts. I have implemented her daily tasks so far {Make Beds, Clean Floors, Wipe Counters, Declutter, Do Laundry} and look forward to learning more!

Isotoner Clog Slippers

I have a goal of 3 cups a day and have been making a pitcher of iced green tea to keep in my refrigerator at all times. Weekly Update

My 3 teen girls had spring break this past week, and boy was it a doozy of a week! I loved every minute of it, but must say I am liking the feeling of getting back into a routine this morning.

We did not travel for spring break, but kept plenty busy with friends, family, shopping, eating out and hanging out.

Highlights of my week were shopping at our local outlet mall for spring clothes with cousins, eating out at AmuManu Ramen Bar as a family, enjoying our first 80-degree day of the year, seeing photos of my oldest kayaking with her boyfriend, & taking a walk with a hurting friend.

These are just a few of the life moments that happened this week that I hold close to my heart.

My home fell apart and became a mess as we were on the go so much. I tried not to sweat it. I spent a good few hours yesterday rescuing our kitchen, doing a few loads of laundry, and getting things back in their place. It felt so good!

The home zone this week is the Master Bedroom. I’m eager to reach the goals listed below and keep the home rescuing going!
