Weekly Update

It has been a week of slow around here, and I LOVED IT. I had a cold settle in my chest which turned into pneumonia, and honestly that was pretty miserable, but once I saw the Dr. and got on treatment I quickly turned a corner. Once the coughing slowed, I was able to enjoy the forced slowing of life as my lungs healed. It brought back memories of getting pleurisy after one of my reconstruction surgeries. Remembering brings on a deep thankfulness to God for life, and all that He has brought this ol’ body of mine through. I’m so, so thankful for continued health.

Forced slowness brought on time to journal, read, & rest. I also enjoyed bit of reality television and fun YouTube video watching, while sipping on Immunity Hot Lemonade. I tried to steer clear of Facebook and all things political, except for quick highlights as I need to be informed. I just wanted to keep the slowness of life and thought, and politics can get my head and heart spinning.

All I know? God is in control and holds it all.

Weekly Update

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that last week I was in Houston spending time with a sweet friend. She is there away from her littles and husband to get treatment for cancer relapse. I can’t even begin to put into words the special time we had, and I just wish the whole world could know her. You CAN know her art, as she is a very accomplished artist. Visit her site here to see what I mean!

I came back home to some sick teenagers who have needed their Mom. It has interrupted my flow of getting back into a routine now that I’m home, but boy am I soaking up being needed! I love to serve and spoil my girls, and I have soup simmering as I type. It is an Italian Orzo Soup with White Beans and Spinach & is easy and delicious. It is made with healthy bone broth so I know it will be nourishing to my girls. I will be sharing the recipe very soon here at New Nostalgia, along with some yummy Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Oat Balls, so make sure to check back!

I asked last AP Tuesday if you all would like to know more about my productivity system and I got a very positive response, so I will work on figuring out how to share it in the most efficient way.

Weekly Update

Last week was a good week. I’ve learned a new productivity system that is actually keeping my inbox cleared out and at zero, and drastically affecting my life, in several different areas. Home, errands, phone and computer all have their separate task lists, and any email pertaining to these categories go under the same label, filed nicely in my gmail sidebar where I can easily find them. I’m seriously in awe! No more emails sitting in my inbox just to keep them front and center so I won’t forget. No more task lists crowding up my brain! I have a place to put every to-do, and I can’t tell you how much more efficient my life is running. If this system keeps working as beautifully as it has this past week, then I will for sure be sharing it with YOU! Is this something you would be interested in?

Weekly Update

Our oldest daughter, Teagan, turned 17 on Saturday. We had her birthday party out at her Grandparents pool and pool house. It was a very fun party, with about 20 of her friends. Our youngest daughter, Avery, made the birthday cake and cupcakes. I helped decorate & made food with lots of help from Sam’s Club!

A great evening of swimming, volleyball, s’mores, trampoline, video games, singing and dancing was had by all. I was so impressed with how great all of her friends are…such a fun group of kids.

I teared up several times during the day, thinking of having a 17-year-old! I cannot believe how quickly time passes!

Goodbye Olympics

We have had such a great time watching the 2016 Olympics. We are actually watching them right now as I type. Even though they are over, we recorded hours of it and are still enjoying every bit of it. My two older girls are either too busy or not interested, but my Avery, Todd and I have spent almost every evening watching them together. Todd and Avery have had lots of fun laughing at me gasping and reacting to all the great and tense moments. I think the Olympics are emotional! I love it.

Todd has had to work late almost every evening while they are on, and it became a habit of his to text me one word as he leaves work and begins his drive home.  “Olympics?” I always respond with a hearty “Yes!”

I’m going to miss those one word texts from my man.

BACK TO SCHOOL

My 8th grader Avery went back yesterday, and Colsie (10th grade) & Teagan (11th grade) go back  today. I have mixed emotions about the quiet house and extra work time. I am excited about plans  for this blog, and have quite a bit of work I’d like to do on our home now that I won’t have 3 teens in the way! I WILL miss them. They are so grown up and have changed so much, even just over the summer. Oh how I love my girls!

FALL WORKOUTS

Something that I am planning on hitting hard is this fall increasing my workouts. The only exercise I’ve done this summer is walking, paying attention to how many steps a day that I get, and doing a bit of stretching. It has been fascinating to see which days I get close to 10,000 steps and how few steps I get on days that I sit to write posts and do administrative work for New Nostalgia.  I need to get my heart rate up and do some strength training, so I’m going to be taking advantage of fall routine to focus in on health.

Another reason why I am so motivated to exercise is because the cancer medications I am on are definitely causing weight gain. It is the first time in my life that I have had to even think about weight, so I have been pretty spoiled these 40 years, but right now my clothes are not fitting! I know that extra weight is health hazard for me, as excess weight means extra estrogen, and my cancer is fed by hormones, so keeping a healthy weight is very important as a cancer survivor.

ANTI-PROCRASTINATION

Anti-Procrastination Weekly Update

AP-header1

This past week has been spent back-to-school shopping with my youngest two. If you watched my Snapchat story, you would see that they are very different in style and chose school supplies and outfits that were unique to their different personalities. I love seeing that!

My oldest, Teagan, has yet to shop, as she was out of town at a youth leadership mission trip.  She is back in one piece, and right back to work as a lifeguard at one of our local pools. It is strange having her so independent this summer. She is about to turn 17, and I have a feeling she won’t be needing her Mom to shop for back-to-school items. Where has the time gone?

I’m starting to get a little excited about the routine that fall brings. I’m not over summer yet, but the idea of a bit more structure in my day is always appealing. I’m feeling a little twinge of happy over fall coming!

Back to Snapchat, I was just getting my groove and enjoying the platform when I learned TODAY that Instagram rolled out Insta stories! It is very much like Snapchat and I think it is going to be much fun. I left my first Insta story about a Peanut Butter Banana smoothie I made this afternoon. You can view it at my Instagram profile here.

Off to figure out what to do with the package of chicken breasts in my refrigerator. It is dinnertime and my people are hungry. I didn’t plan my meals very well this week, but will get back to it as the rhythms of fall pick up.
