How are you all? I feel a little out of touch, life has been busy so my blog has been a bit neglected lately!
I recently had some reconstructive surgery done so that kept me layin’ low for awhile.
I lost a very special friend to cancer this last week. We celebrated her life and are mourning her death. Celebrating who she was brought much joy, but of course, the mourning is painful. Will you pray for her family?
Today was a perfect, lazy, do- whatever- I- want- to- do, Saturday. Just lovely!
My husband and youngest daughter left super early for a soccer tournament in Omaha. My older 2 girls like to sleep in, so guess who joined them today? When my eyes popped open and the clock said 10:30 I couldn’t believe it! I have not slept in that late since my sick days!!
My middle girl (age 10) had a piano lesson around noon. I decided to take advantage of the alone time with her and make it a day all about her. She has been a little “off” behavior-wise lately. Husband and I talked about this and decided some quality time was needed. as it is her main “love language.”
While she was at piano lesson, I ran over to Trader Joes. Love that place. They had the most beautiful large pumpkins for $3.49. Look what else they had…
… I could not resist. Salty potato chip + sweet chocolate = Scrumptiousness. They are not healthy at all. Or vegan..but I brought them home and plan to eat them all, so I hid them. In my closet. Top shelf. Shhh….
My girl needed a winter coat and some boots so quality shopping time it was! It was a beautiful, 76 degree, sunny fall day, and we shopped in a lovely outdoor mall in town. My word, did we have fun!
She gave me fashion shows, we found everything we needed AND it was ALL ON SALE! Love that.
We took a lunch break at Panera. We felt so good about the sales we found that we decided to keep lunch cheap, too. We shared their “You Pick 2” special and got Tomato Soup/Mediterranean Veggie Sandwich.
We needed a restroom break. We were right next to Von Maur. I got excited to see my girls reaction to their beautiful bathrooms…yes, this excited me. You people from the Midwest know what I am talking about. They have the most bright, cheery, clean, luxurious bathrooms-ever. Her reaction did not disappoint. That’s my girl!!
On a serious note, I cannot enter a Von Maur without thinking of those who lost their lives there back in 2007. My sister, the same one I introduced you to above, was working at the Omaha Von Maur store on that tragic day back in 2007, where a gunman killed 8 and then took his own life. We were so scared for Laurie when we didn’t hear from her for awhile, she was in hiding and couldn’t get to a phone. I am so thankful for the life of my little sister!
While we were there we stopped to listen to the piano player, and my daughter exclaimed, “I WILL be that good someday, Mom.” That’s my girl!
We also took advantage of their accessory sale rack. I’ve been wanting a new layered necklace as mine broke. That is what happens when girls grow up and think they have to wear mom’s things, then break them. Grrr.
We also walked around and I drooled a bit on these:
Then we ended up at Old Navy, where my self control at Von Maur paid off. Everything was on super sale! My girl found a 40% off winter coat & $29.00 riding boots on sale for $7.00. I also found a coat. It is my favorite color, bright green. I like. I REALLY like that it, too, was 40% off!
Once we arrived home, my kitchen needed some attention, so daughter and I worked together. While dancing to “Two Door Cinema Club.”
I smell my husband popping popcorn, which means soon the boys will go home, my girls will go to bed, and I will have a date with my hot man on the couch, munching on popcorn and watching recorded television.
This is what I consider the perfect Saturday. Sleep in. Little chores. Quality time with family. No cooking. Good music. Perfect fall weather, fall pumpkins and fall “pumpkin buttercream” scents. Good deals on exactly what was needed. My home being used by others &… a hot date!!

October 16, 2011 at 7:26 pmWe have the same idea! Good day. Thanks for sharing about your fun shopping. My daughter and I snuck out for a bit yesterday for some good shopping- shoes! We actually were headed to Ulta for a few health and beauty aids but they put in a brand new DSW store next door. Oh, man, we were so overjoyed! We saw those same Bestsy Johnson and Steve Madden shoes you posted. I will blog about our day soon and post her trying on a couple pairs. Enjoy the rest of your week.
