Do You Love Style Magazines? Then You Will Love This Deal!

Target is one of my favorite stores, so I was excited when I got the opportunity to share with you an awesome deal that they are offering right now.
If you purchase both InStyle and People Style Watch Magazines from TARGET during the week of 11/25/12-12/7/12, you will receive a $5.00 Target Gift Card!
Even if there is not signage on display promoting this deal, it IS going on.  I just took my two magazines to the checkout counter, and asked if they were giving away $5.00 gift cards with the purchase of the magazines.  The Target associate was super nice and said “Let me check.” She then scanned both magazines and said..”Why yes, we are!”

My Teagan and I had much fun finding the magazines and looking at things to spend the $5.00 gift card on.  She has become one of my most favorite shopping buddies! Isn’t she cute?

Once I got home with my magazines, I couldn’t wait to put the kids to bed, sit with a cup of tea, and browse through them.
I used to work as a stylist at a hair salon, and they always had InStyle magazines.  In between clients I would browse through them and always get inspired by what I saw.  Sitting here tonight with my magazines took me back to those salon days, and made me remember why I love fashion and all things beauty!  I love being a girl, just look at the fun we get to have!!

This article on bright eye shadows just made me happy.  How fun is it that all this color is coming back into style?  I love it.  This article takes you through the steps of applying it, which is super important when working with such bold colors.

Ahh…nail polish.  I only wear it on special occasions, and I have found myself reaching for greys and dark colors this fall.  I think these colors look great on shorter, manicured nails, which is what I have right now.

Being a hairstylist, I really appreciated this article on Haircuts of the year.  I love that long pixie cut on Carey Mulligan.  So cute!

Love this tip on belts.  The magazine is full of small fashion tips that make a world of difference.

Ok, how fun would a Swap Party be?  These step- by- step instructions make planning a breeze.

I just painted my bathroom a light grey last week, and added some white towels.  It does feel very spa-like, this article made me feel like I am on the right track with my decorating.
 {People Style Watch}
One of my most favorite things about reading a magazine is the perfume ads.  This one smelled SO good.  This is something I miss when reading from my Nook!
 {People Style Watch}
I’ve always wanted to try false eyelashes.  There is something so pretty and dramatic about them.  I would need the right event to wear them to, but after reading this in People Style Watch, I am more confident in my ability to put them on!
{People Style Watch}

I loved this collection of 50 Hot Holiday Hairstyles.  They have ideas for all lengths and types of hair. Now I just want to get my eyelashes on, use one of these festive hairstyles, and go out on the town with my hot man!

12 Days Of Giving

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walmart for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Walmart12days2-1

This holiday season, Walmart will be giving a total of $1.5 MILLION in grants to benefit local communities across the country and provide basic need items like food, diapers, coats, baby formula and other cold-weather clothing to those in need.  During the campaign, Americans will have the opportunity to voice which organization they feel need support and deserve to win a portion of the $1.5 million in grants!

Between November 1 and November 18, Americans can vote for local nonprofits on Facebook.

I just visited the Live Better application on Walmart’s Facebook page and submitted a nomination for a local nonprofit that has my heart and is super important to me.  It is called City Impact.

There are many reasons I jumped at the opportunity to vote for this non profit, but I couldn’t dream of voting for any other when the love of my life, my husband gives his time and talent every day at this particular non-profit as the Programs Director.

City Impact exists to see urban youth, families, and neighborhoods transformed from the inside out.  It is a faith-based and strengths-based local mission, that works to empower individuals in numerous ways.  From their Strengths for Life Mentoring Program for 3rd – 12th Grade, to the Impact Reading Center, which has seen huge improvement in involved students reading levels, City Impact is definitely in the business of making a difference in individual lives and the community.

They have a Youth Philanthropy Team, where Youth Servant Leadership serve their own community, & a “Gifts of Love” Christmas store, where families of the community can come shop with dignity for brand new items at 75% off store prices. City Impact needs a permanent home in the community and is in the process of raising funds to  renovate a warehouse that they have already secured and call their own. Right now it is sitting empty, as they wait for the funds to be raised.  I nominate them with hope in my heart and fingers crossed!!

So what about you?  Is there a non-profit in your community you would like to nominate?  If so, the process is super simple.  You will need:
a) Nonprofit name
b) Nonprofit contact info
c)  Nonprofit website
d) Photo (optional)

Remember, you must nominate your nonprofit between November 1 and November 18.  On December 10, Walmart will start the “12 Days of Giving,” by announcing funding to the winning nonprofits that were nominated on Facebook.

Go and vote for your local nonprofit!  Make sure you leave a comment and share which nonprofit you nominate!

Healthy Eating/ How-Tos/ RECIPES

Eating Healthy On Vacation–Or At Least Trying To!

It is interesting trying to eat healthy while on vacation.  We have been gone a week. 3 days at Florida’s St. Pete’s Beach and now we are doing the Disney thing. We are having a blast, and eating is a big part of that fun. Really, it has been much easier to find healthy foods than I thought it would be.

Now, don’t get me wrong–I have had my fill of sugar and treats that I normally would not eat, after all, we ARE at Disney.  Here is a sampling of some of the desserts we have had.  Oh. My. Yum.

But, my body is used to getting an abundance of plants and is now at the point where I crave them if I don’t get them.  Fortunately, I have been able to eat some type of green everyday.  We have been blessed to be able to eat at a sit down type restaurant at least once each day, and when we do, I make sure I order something leafy and green as part of my meal.  I also always get a side of vegetables.  I have been eating a lot of fish while vacationing.  No beef.  No chicken.  No pork.

Fast food and airport food has been a little harder, but I’ve been able to get creative.  Breakfast at the airport one day was grapes and a whole wheat bagel with peanut butter and sliced bananas on it.

Fast food lunch & airport lunch have been wraps and rice with vegetables. I also had a bean burrito.

We were at a water park the other day and there was not a thing for vegetarians.  I got a chicken Caesar wrap and picked out the chicken.  Thank goodness it had quite a bit of greens in it.  I got hungry quickly after that but fortunately we had an amazing dinner that night–I ordered Roasted Carrot Ravioli–Carrot Silk, Fava Beans, Chanterelles,  Pinot Noir Syrup and Lemon Dill Foam.

It was one of the BEST meals I have ever eaten! It was a dark restaurant, so the photo does not do it justice, but it was delish & so pretty!

I ended the meal with Bananas & Caramel–Crispy Baked Phyllo Squares Layered with Banana, Mascarpone Mousse, and Caramelized Banana.  Yes, it made me feel sick due to the milk products in it, but it was SOOO worth it!

Breakfast is easy.  We have stayed in a room that has a little kitchenette, so we hit up a grocery store for breakfast foods and snacks on our first day.  The girls have enjoyed whole grain bagels because I bought cinnamon cream cheese, something they are not used to eating.  That has been a treat for them.  I also made sure they get plenty of fruit for breakfast–bananas, clementines, grapes and apples.  We also have oatmeal topped with dried cranberries & cereal with almond milk.  Eating breakfast in our room has saved us a ton of money!

Snacks at the parks are not to great, so we load our backpack with some healthier snacks.  Here are some of our favorites:

~Sabra Hummus Dip with Pretzels
~Clementines
~Bananas
~Grapes
~Apples

~Cliff Bars
In the parks, I have been happy to see that they have these Edy’s Strawberry Bars.  They are high sugar, but they do not contain high fructose corn syrup or artificial colors or flavors.  They are strawberries & sugar.  They are colored with beet juice & turmeric. Much better than all the crazy colored Micky ice cream bars out there!
What are your favorite ways to eat healthy on vacation?  Any snack ideas for me?

My Toby And Max Faves!

Toby and Max Jewelry is a long-time sponsor of New Nostalgia. I’m so grateful for their belief in the message of this space, and today I wanted to share a bit about why I love them, and a peek at some of my favorite Toby and Max pieces!

Made from high-quality sterling and pewter, Sandy Comstock crafts each of her her pieces with special meaning and quotes. In her large inventory you’re sure to find the perfect piece to help tell your story, remind you of loved ones, and keep a special quote or Bible verse close to your heart.

Sandy loves to help folks find the perfect gift for friends and loved ones, crafting pieces that express those hard-to-find words of love and affirmation – what a great business model!

Here are a few of my favorite pieces from the Toby and Max collection!

Blessed Spiral Pendent— the 3 spirals remind me of my 3 little blessings–my sweet girls.
Grace Cross Pendent – I love the strong shape of this, and it uses 2 of my most favorite symbols.  I also love the word “Grace.”
Enjoy Each Day– This makes me very happy.  I love circles and such a simple but important message.
It Will Be Alright Bracelet–a.k.a. Bumpy Road.  Love that.
A True Friend–this is one of their best sellers & I see why.  How cool to wear a hug around your wrist?
Warrior Bracelet–“I Am Strong”  I would have loved this as a gift when I was sick.  Do you see how the intricate hammered surface design symbolizes battle?
With God All Things Are Possible–Amen and Amen! Again, notice the circle love!
