Vinegar-Free Homemade Glass & Floor Cleaner

homemade glass and floor cleaner

Most homemade glass/floor cleaner recipes call for vinegar. And I can see why. It’s inexpensive. It kills germs. It’s safe enough to drink. But if you can’t even use it because your husband and kids won’t stop complaining about the smell, it’s just not going to work. So I switched to an alcohol-based recipe that no one has complained about yet! I think it works better than vinegar and water, which left streaks when I used it. It’s super easy to make and it only cost me $0.86 for 24 oz! Streak-free, smell-free, and stress-free. What’s not to love?

Vinegar-Free Homemade Glass & Floor Cleaner Recipe

16 oz. water
4 oz. vodka
10-20 drops essential oils (optional)

I used the cheapest vodka I could find. Lately I’ve been loving pine essential oil in my homemade cleaners for the “clean” aroma and extra disinfecting power.

What homemade cleaners do you make?

This is awesome… my husband hates the smell of vinegar in the house so I have switched back to cleaners. I think I will try this out.

Robyn, you can find essential oils at Walmart where they have/sell candles and potpourri. I have been using a combination of water and rubbing alcohol for sometime now. I cleans very well and leaves no streaks, even gets nicotine off car windows which is not easy!

Interesting! Sounds like a very good idea–I am thinking lemon or orange or bergamot.

Hmm Vodka, never gave it a thought but I think I’ll try it.. I do use vinegar to clean with but the smell is pretty harsh and even gets to me sometimes too..Where does one buy essential oils?

I appreciate your efforts in bringing us lots of good stuff but to waste vodka in cleaning is a sin. 🙂
I use vinegar and rubbing alcohol with water..

I make one that is not toxic to spray around my birds: Orange peel and vinegar. Fill a large jar with orange peels, when you fill it up fill the bottle with vinegar let stand for a few weeks, cut with water TWO TO ONE AND SPRAY, EVEN KILLS ANTS..
